Come Olympics and most
of us manage to develop a new faculty of self…some turn patriotic, some develop
hope in the garb of loyalty of a fan, some add aggression to their armory of
senseless complaint of the country that stems from their inability to get out
of India so far and some discover new passion & reason to not do anything. However,
for a nation like India, such events are like a breath of fresh air…..giving
new vigour to the zeal that youth has, uniting the different sects, castes,
communities in some small ways, and in general ensuring that a sense of a
common identity prevails all across the nation. Certainly, such events do a lot
more to bring in positivity & a sense of purpose to the nation than any
rhetoric of leaders that we have.
No wonder
then the whole nation waits in anticipation for us to do well at the London 2012 Olympics. Because the success of those who are representing us is the success
of ‘us; a better showing at the games than the last time around will be a sign
that as a nation India is finally waking up. More than the truth in this
thought, it’s the belief that’s more important. Well, after a week has passed
in the games, I want to wish best of luck to all my heroes, my representatives
who are still left standing, still fighting – bring us glory, we all need it.
